T-Mobile doing us all a favour

Here is the message printed on a T-Mobile phone bill:

Have a look – we’ve put your VAT saving on your bill.

I don’t know about you, but as far as I’m concerned, a VAT charge is a VAT charge and not a saving. It may currently be calculated at 15% (rather than the 17.5% of a few months ago), but it is a charge and T-Mobile have only complied with the law by charging the correct amount.

I guess some people will think they have received special treatment from T-Mobile. You can fool some of the people some of the time.

Side of an Iceland lorry

I saw on the side of an Iceland lorry the statement: “We were the first supermarket to stop selling GM food.”

So what? Others have stopped selling GM foods. And, this all presupposes that GM food is bad in the first place.

For a brand that is predominantly price led the lorry’s message stuck out. At the time of writing their website is leading on 75p freezer essentials and planning a party for £1 a person.

National Clamps…we care

National Clamps out caring

National Clamps out caring

It seems every business needs a strap line. Many of these strap lines seem to sit quite naturally with the brand but some really don’t.

I spotted this one on the back of a van today, “National Clamps…we care.” All I could do was laugh. The thought of wheel clampers caring does seem a bit incongruous.

They have brand synergy! And on their website they follow the “we care” message on. This is alongside the statement, “Failure to pay after the 28 days will result in a County Court Summons and a subsequent appearance. You the driver may not be the registered keeper that doesn’t matter as the owner’s vehicle committed the trespass and damages are pursued from them.” (Incidentally I’m not sure that statement makes sense.)

National Clamps have hit the news before and details are on the BBC website.
