Marketer or Marketeer?

marketer-or-marketeer

Both “marketer” and “marketeer” can be used to refer to someone who markets or promotes something, though “marketer” is more common.

The main differences between the two words are:

  • “Marketer” is the more standard and widely used term. “Marketeer” is much less common.
  • “Marketer” tends to refer broadly to anyone involved in marketing, while “marketeer” sometimes implies someone more specifically focused on sales and promotion.
  • “Marketeer” has a slightly more old-fashioned sound to it, though it’s still used. “Marketer” sounds more modern and neutral.

So in summary:

  • “Marketer” is the more common and standard choice. It’s the safer option in most cases.
  • “Marketeer” is an acceptable alternate form, but is less widely used. It may imply a more narrow sales focus.
  • Either can be used for someone who does marketing, but “marketer” is more broadly applicable and common in modern usage.

So unless you have a specific reason to use “marketeer,” I’d recommend simply saying “a marketer” in most cases.
