Like it or not, sitcoms such as The Brittas Empire or The Office still epitomise how most people view their managers. Recent research from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) found that only four in 10 people think their boss has a genuine open‑door policy and more than half think the dominant management style within their organisation is negative. While many put up with it, others don’t: 47% of staff have left a job due to bad management.
