Punctuation and Perspective

Punctuation and Perspective

There was a piece on the television recently where it was stated that 67% of students didn’t use   semi-colons. The surprise was that 33% did use them.

I suppose student communities are becoming part of stories that are easy to find or research; many students may even be carrying out this research for their own benefit.

And then, whilst going through old notes, I found this apocryphal item.

An English professor wrote the words, “A woman without her man is nothing” on the blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote: “A woman, without her man, is nothing.”

The women wrote: “A woman: without her, man is nothing.”

Perspective is everything.
