Look at this unhelpful price information in Sainsbury’s. The photo above shows two different brands of beverage sweeteners and the retail pack price. So far, so good. Below they show the Sweetex price for 10 tablets as 3.2p. But the Hermesetas price label only indicates the packet price.
Why? What use is this? How is one supposed to quickly compare prices? Perhaps Sainsbury’s doesn’t want us to?
Don’t for one moment think this is a one-off. We have the same issue with Persil and Sainsbury’s own brand washing machine capsules. And there are a lot more examples.
Persil is £9.26 per kilo and Sainsbury’s own brand is 15p per unit. What help is that to anyone?
Am I the only person to think this is bloody unhelpful? Evidently, Sainsbury’s systems can provide the per-unit price but it appears they choose not to.
I’m sure this issue appears in other supermarkets. If I’m right, the question again is, why?

The examples continue to shout from the supermarket’s shelves. What help is it to know one product is £2.67 per 100ml and the other is £6.50 per unit? And then they claim the £6.50 product is a ‘value pack’.
Other supermarkets are guilty of same odd price ticketing; here are examples from Tesco.
